Back Up Backs to Attack

In the past couple years we have seen a lot injuries take out all start backs, many of which may have even been 1st over all fantasy picks. ex( Bell 2015 week 9, David Johnson 2017 week 1, Dalvin Cook 2017 week 4, Jamaal Charles 2015 week 5, just to name a few)

Here's a list of Running backs to keep your eye on who have great potential if their team's first strings go down.

These first two I'm going to bring up are really are teams who have an amazing 1-2 combo in their back field. It couldn't hurt to pick up both players from their respective teams and play both of them from week to week and give your self a security blanket if one happens to go down.

In 2017-18 KamGram blew up the league with a combined 25 touchdowns and over 3000 yards collectively between their rushing and receiving stats. Not to mention a kick off return by Kamara and their post season stats. Either one of these guys is going to be an awesome addition to your team that you'll be able to pick up and if you wanna secure both of them you cant go wrong throwing one into your flex spot. Both guys are amazing producers and in the event that one of them goes down, you know the other will have no problem picking up the extra snaps.

Okay, so I'm a little bias to this duo here since they play for my favorite team but they have the stat lines to back it up. This is another combo that one could pick up and be solid playing each of them in the same week. While Freeman tends to carry a slightly larger load, Coleman has shown that he has no problem stepping into a full time role when Freeman went down last year with a concussion. They also take up 2 of the 3 spots for only RB to average 4.2 yards a carry and 8.4 yards a catch over the past 2 seasons along with Ezekiel Elliott.

T.J. Yeldon

Logan Bowles-USA TODAY Sports

T.J Yeldon may not have the numbers that others on this list have so this could be more of a personal take. Yeldon accumulated 253 yards on 49 attempts last year for an average of 5.2 and only 2 touchdowns. He also gathered 224 yards through the air and has displayed the ability to be a solid receiving back that the current NFL demands. If Fournette stays healthy then you can expect Yeldon's ceiling to be low, however if injury does plague the Jag's star RB then picking up Yeldon might be a decent pick up off the wire if you're struggling for a flex or back up RB2. The Jaguars will have the 7th easiest schedule for RBs according to fantasypros.com

Latavius Murray

Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

Latavius is a handcuff who has already proven that he can be a great back up after filling in behind Dalvin Cook last season when he tore his ACL. With 842 running yards and 103 through the air, Latavius was able to pick up 8 touchdowns and proved to be a RB2 or Flex that not many could complain about. His team will also have the 3rd easiest schedule for running backs according to fantasypros.com

Dion Lewis

Ben Volin | On football

With the 5th easiest schedule for RBs the Tennessee Titans have quite the mix of power and speed with Derrick Henry and Dion Lewis. You can expect Dion to get a good mix of touches even if Henry stays healthy, but could see boosted numbers if the unfortunate happens to the Titan's starter. With 896 yards on the ground and 214 through the air, Lewis tallied 9 TD last year and shows he can be a great flex spot or RB2 in larger leagues.

As a guy who tends to value his running backs and usually has on in his flex I feel like these are some awesome players to keep your eye on if the unfortunate event of an injury happens to take out any of their teams respective starters. Let me know if there is anyone you'd add to the list or if you'll be adding some of these guys to your watch list.
